The Stone Mill
Matcha is not tea that was ground, it is tea grown to be ground: shaded for weeks so the leaf runs sweet, then steamed, dried and fed into a granite mill that turns once every few seconds. An hour of milling yields about forty grams. Do it yourself once and the price of a good tin stops looking strange.

The Ceylon Ridge Line
The British planted the ridges above Nuwara Eliya and then built a railway along them, so the tea estates and the train share the same contour for hours. Tea has rules, and they are all small. A tatami room means shoes off and clean socks, and most of an hour on your heels unless you book a table-style sitting. Plantations want closed shoes and a hat; factories shut on Sundays and through the monsoon maintenance weeks.
